postheadericon How Do You Get Fibromyalgia? Can You Get Enough Sleep With Painful Fibromyalgia Symptoms?

Fibromyalgia is truly a painful condition that can keeps you from a restful night sleep. According to research at the Harvard Medical School, your body manages and requires sleep in much the same way that it regulates the need for eating, drinking, and breathing. Extensive research has been done on the effects of sleep. These studies have consistently shown that sleep plays a vital role in promoting physical health, longevity, and emotional well-being.

This explains why, after a good night’s sleep, you feel better, your thinking is more clear, and your emotions are less fragile. Without adequate sleep, judgment, mood, and ability to learn and retain information are weakened. Over time, chronic sleep deprivation may lead to an array of serious medical conditions including obesity, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, and even early mortality.

So when you are faced with painful symptoms of Fibromyalgia, which keeps you from have restful sleep, your quality of life and relationships can be greatly compromised.

The following article was written to introduce the reader to a natural remedy:

By

Sarah slammed the book shut. She had had enough; she was gritting her teeth she was so mad.

Here we go AGAIN… It was a book on pain and all it told her was do this, do that and do, do, do more.

All Sarah could think was: ” I don’t want to hear anything else about what to do. I don’t want to be told what to do. I don’t want to be guided through what to do. I don’t want to do anything more at all! I have fibromyalgia and I’ m in a lot of pain.”

She thought to herself, ” They should just tell you to get horizontal. Get horizontal!” As in, ” Lie down!” Sarah was so exhausted she didn’t want to hear anything except how she could rest.

How do you get fibromyalgiaThe pain was so intense it was hard for her to even relax enough to sleep. But that’s what she needed most; that was all she needed. SLEEP! She just didn’t know how she was to get that sleep.

As it turned out, she spoke with the author of that book on pain and told her what she thought. As the book was being edited for a new version, Sarah actually ended up giving input for it, and changes were made to address her concerns and frustrations.

It was clear to Sarah, to the author, and to everyone who she talked with that what she deeply needed was a better way to rest – to get deeper, more restorative rest.

Difficulty getting meaningful rest and quality sleep certainly is a primary challenge for people with fibromyalgia symptoms.
So, how do you rest?

How do you get your best rest, especially if you’re dealing with pain?

This is THE big question – the most important thing to address. This is the primary reason that it’s critical to find some relief from the pain.

The biggest reason for pharmaceutical intervention, the drug therapies, is to be able to relieve the pain enough so that other more natural treatments, lifestyle modifications and balances can take place.

As a result of that pain relief, you can then have your attention present.

The pain relief is enough to allow you to do the other things necessary to relieve stress, release tension, avoid burnout and overwhelm, and to get things done efficiently – without falling apart from fatigue, exhaustion and depression.

Sarah needed all of that that, a way to deeply rest. Every one of us needs that! Sleep is a primary need. It is for everyone, but even more so if you are in great pain. Getting really replenishing sleep, which is needed to repair rebuild and recharge the body, is one of the great challenges of dealing with intense or chronic pain. Treatment for pain has to be able to allow for the sleep irregularity that results from that pain. One of the primary factors involved is being able to relax enough so that the pain can release or diminish.

The more tension there is, the more the pain gets locked in. So it’s very important to find whatever ways work for you to relax and relieve this stress and tension.

Very powerful ways can be found in different forms of meditation. Do you remember that The biggest reason for pain relieving drugs is to get enough relief so that needed healing lifestyle shifts and balances can take place. The pain relief then enables you to release stress and tension and to work without going into depression or burnout.

But first let’ s address the physical pain component. M any people experiencing fibromyalgia feel they have tried every natural remedy available and found it did not do enough. Or they have given up and don’t believe there is anything natural available that will help significantly.

Have you heard of or tried Magnesium Oil?

Did you know that research is now showing that most of the population of this country is in serious magnesium deficiency. It is epidemic according to research.

It does not show up on tests as a deficiency because magnesium is so critical to cell, organ and brain health that if there is not enough in the blood, it will be pulled out of the tissues and joints. Some of the indicators of magnesium deficiency are difficulty sleeping – and relaxing, muscle spasms, lack of energy and pain of unknown origin. Pain!

Many people take magnesium tablets or capsules without noticeable relief from pain or improvement in sleep patterns.
Research and experience now show that transdermal magnesium that you spray on your skin absorbs much more readily and goes directly into cells. Entering through the skin, instead of the digestive tract means it does not clog the liver or kidneys or cause diarrhea – as do high doses of magnesium pills.

There is a growing number of reports from patients with fibromyalgia symptoms that magnesium oil helps enormously to relieve their pain. Some find significant relief within a day or two, for some it may be a few weeks. Many report awareness of noticeable changes almost immediately, and major improvement within a few weeks or a month. Liquid magnesium is not truly an oil, but it’ s a solution of natural magnesium chloride from ancient seas below the earth’ s surface. It is natural and there are no reported side effects of any kind (except that it tastes bad to some folks).

Did you know that conditions linked to magnesium levels include: Headaches, Muscle Spasms and Cramps, Fibromyalgia, Anxiety, Depression, Insomnia.

If you are willing and open to new awareness of yourself, You can do phenomenal things to affect your health and happiness.

With Deep Appreciation for You,

Magnesium deficiency has been a major problem in inflammatory/painful conditions, and is due to depleted soil where we grow our crops/fruits/vegetables. It is also due to wide spread use of toxic pesticides which alter the genetics of our fruits and vegetables. Fortunately there are still good food sources of Magnesium unaltered by pesticide manufacturers, which are helping those aware of them.

I would love to hear from you sharing your thoughts and comments about what you are experiencing with sleeping issues and what are some of the things you are doing to relieve your symptoms with Fibromyalgia!

postheadericon How Do You Get Fibromyalgia? Evaluate Your Symptoms to See if You Have Fibromyalgia

Diagnosis of Fibromyalgia is a good example of “Diagnosis of Exclusion”, what that means is that other conditions similar in symptomatology get eliminated before one is diagnosed as having Fibromyalgia.

Below is a great article that walks you through evaluating your symptoms to see if you are in fact suffering from Fibromyalgia.

By Colette Larson

Fibromyalgia Syndrome (FMS) is a painful, debilitating condition affecting the joints, muscles and soft tissue of the human body in approximately two per cent of the United States population. Its multiple symptoms are closely associated to those of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), Rheumatoid Arthritis, Systemic Lupus and the Epstein-Barr Virus. There is no reliable test for fibromyalgia. It is diagnosed by ruling out any other health condition that may be responsible for the primary underlying symptoms of fatigue, widespread muscle pain and multiple tender points.

The following questions screen for the occurrence of Fibromyalgia and should not be used as a sole means of its diagnosis. If your primary three physical complaints over the last three to six months include fatigue, cognitive dysfunction and pain and you have experienced a significant portion of the following for a minimum of three to six months, please visit a clinician familiar with this condition for an individual diagnosis and treatment plan.

Pain

Do you feel a constant widespread dull pain that seems to originate in your muscles? (This pain occurs on both sides of the body, above and below the waist.)

Do you experience pain when pressure is applied to the following tender points:

* Back of the head

* Between the shoulder blades

* Top of the shoulders

* Front sides of the neck

Are you stiff upon waking in the morning?

Do you frequently feel a tingling sensation or numbness in your hands and feet?

Allergies and Sensitivities

Have any of the following worsened or developed over the past three to six months?

Mold, dust, seasonal, or food allergies?

Sensitivity to fumes, odors or chemicals?

Drug or alcohol sensitivities?

Rashes or skin sensitivities?

Other Symptoms

Have you begun to experience at least four of the following over the past three to six months:

Frequent, severe headaches?

Recurring or chronic sore throat?

Painful lymph node areas under your arm or in the neck?

Muscle pain or general muscle discomfort?

Difficulty sleeping?

Problems with cognitive skills such as memory or thinking? (commonly referred to as “fibro fog”)

Pain in different joints at different times as if it were “traveling” from one joint to another (migratory arthralgia)

Additional symptoms may include painful menstrual periods, irritable bowel and bladder, restless legs syndrome, dry eyes and mouth, depression, anxiety, tinnitus, dizziness, vision problems, Raynaud’s Syndrome, neurological symptoms and impaired coordination.

Medical History

Do you have a history of any of the following that may explain your recent symptoms:

In a 1997 study published in Volume 2 of the Clinical Bulletin of Myofascial Therapy, John C. Lowe, Richard L. Garrison, Alan J. Reichman, Jackie Yellin, Mervianna Thompson and Daniel Kaufman have indicated a link between insufficient production of the triiodothyronine (T3) hormone by the thyroid gland and the occurrence of FMS. T3 sends oxygen to each muscle in the body. In patients with Fibromyalgia, the muscles seem to be oxygen-starved. This is believed to cause the general achiness experienced by FMS patients. Another major symptom of FMS is extreme fatigue, again possibly caused by low T3 level impact on the patient’s metabolism.
